June 2013 is officially camping month. Camping is (sometimes) a brilliant way to get away for a while without spending tons of money on flights and hotels. The weather may not be great, and tents might be fairly difficult to construct, however once you’re settled in it is a fantastic way to hang out with friends and explore new places. In my experience (occasional fortnights camping in the north of France, Duke of Edinburgh expeditions and sandy beaches in Wales), camping is all about making your own fun. There are sites all over Great Britain which are easy to get to, with great scenery, fun activities and plenty of pubs! So surely it’s a great idea for students on a budget?
Here are a few campsites from different parts of the UK you could take a look at. Though if you have any other suggestions, leave a comment below or Tweet me @emiliesillett, I’d love to hear from you!
Shell Island, Llanbed, Gwynedd, Wales – Shell Island has over 300 acres of land dedicated to camping, making it the largest campsite in the UK. It’s situated right on the beach and is absolutely huge, with plenty of space for groups, so make sure someone brings a barbeque! For only £6.25 per person per night, you could have a great few nights away.
Daisy Bank, Montgomery, Powys, Wales – Not a fan of pitching a tent? Try glamping. All the fun of camping, without worrying about the wind blowing your tent away! From only £30 a night for two people, it comes with electricity, fresh water tap, grey water drain, showers, WiFi, all the little luxuries you don’t normally get when camping. This is also an adults-only campsite, so no screaming kids ruining your lie-in!
Park Foot, Lake Ullswater, Penrith, Cumbria, England – Lake Ullswater is in the beautiful Lake District, where there is some fabulous scenery and some brilliant walks (all which inevitably lead to pubs). Park Foot campsite is only £17 in mid season (June to mid-July) for 2 people and a car, then it is just £5 per extra person. You can even take your dog if you’re the rambling type!
Holywell Bay, Near Newquay, Cornwall, England – If you prefer much livelier scenery, Holywell Bay has a heated outdoor pool area, water slide, live entertainment and is only a short walk from the beach. From £38 per night for a standard pitch, based on 4 people, this could be a great getaway for those who love getting involved. Be warned if you’re looking for an adults-only site, as this is a family park and has plenty of activities for children!
