Now that Christmas is over the next thing on our minds is, of course, Valentine’s Day. Soon the shops will be awash with every heart themed item imaginable, more pink foiled chocolates than you know what to do with post-Christmas and sparkling diamonds. Not to mention restaurant emails pinging in your inbox every five minutes promising to offer you the meal of a lifetime with 2 course and a bottle of bubbly.
Because love is about flash gifts to show your partner how much you love them, right? Wrong. Valentine’s isn’t just about spending time with that special someone or splashing the cash, it should be about celebrating everyone you love in your life from your family to your friends.
In the words of Love Actually ‘love actually is all around’. So celebrate love in all its forms with these fun date night ideas to help you show how much you care on February 14th.
12 Months of Dates
Who said love should just be celebrated on February 14th?! Love is a 24 hour, 365 days a year thing so why not create 12 months of dates. Not only does it give you something fun to look forward to each month but it’ll make you be as creative as possible planning so far in advance.
They don’t have to be anything fancy either. Why not plan an indoor picnic or a night to binge watch a new TV series? If you’re feeling particularly confident you could also try out alphabet dating, where you date by (you guessed it) the letter of the alphabet. For example a could be visiting an art museum and b could be bowling.
The At Home Cinema
This one is for partners, friends of family. Grab your favourite people and create an at home cinema. Not only is it much cheaper than going to the actual cinema you’ll be able to pop on your favourite PJ’s and get cosy in the comfort of your own home.
Grab a stack of films, a takeaway and some delicious treats and begin that movie marathon! The question is; which film will you watch? Warning, you may have a bit of your fight on your hands when it comes to action versus chick flick.
Try Something New
Why not use Valentine’s Day as an excuse to step outside of your comfort zone and learn something new. Whilst juggling our busy day to day lives we can sometimes forgot to treat ourselves and indulge our skillset so why not try something out you’ve always wanted to do?
Whether you choose to go on an adventure or take up a cookery class, spending time with the person you love in a new environment will give you many happy memories for days to come.
The Big Date
There are some days when only a big date will do, so Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to take romance up a notch. Whether you’re planning on a romantic meal for two at your favourite restaurant or going to the theatre this is a date to impress.
Inject a little fun into your flash date with a trip to see celebrity magician Oliver B at the W Hotel London. Sometimes only a cocktail will do so with a drink in hand you’re sure to remember such a magical evening.
Whatever you choose to do for Valentine’s Day make sure you celebrate all kinds of love and tell those special people how much you care about them.
