The dark nights and cold days are becoming a bit tedious now, agreed? We’re all fed up with wearing the same winter coat all the time, and with spring nearly upon us all we want to do is start booking holidays and thinking about plans for the summer.
To get us in the mood here’s a run-down of some of the top clothing trends that appeared on the catwalks this January, and what you can expect to be seeing in the shops when Spring does finally arrive.
1. GINGHAM CHECKS
Last season the tartan trend was huge, but for Spring the gingham pattern is back. Seen on the catwalks by Balmain, Derek Lam and House Of Holland.
Student Saver: Get your gingham check from Zara and Primark.
2. BOMBER JACKETS
The preppy bomber is a big hit for Spring 2014! Look out for jackets in silk in particular, along with beads and intricate embroidery. As seen on the catwalks by Jonathan Saunders and Dior.
Student Saver: Mango and Topshop have some great designs in store at a more affordable price.
3. PASTEL SHADES
Always a staple trend for Spring, however this season’s shades can be found in textured fabrics such as leather and satin. Think yellow, peaches, pink and mint!
Student Saver: A wide range of pastels are available from ASOS and French Connection.
4. MATCHY MATCHY
A big favourite of mine! One of Spring 2014’s biggest trends is wearing the same print all over- on both the top and bottom. As seen on the catwalks by Chanel, Ralph Lauren and Alexander McQueen.
Student Saver: Online stores have some great matchy matchy outfits on offer at the moment. Try Misguided, ASOS and Hot Mess Clothing.
5. BIG FLORALS
Florals are an obvious trend for Spring however this season it’s all about bold graphic motifs, roses, poppies and camellias. As seen on the catwalks by House of Holland, Mulberry and Stella McCartney.
Student Saver: Zara and H&M have a great range of floral prints whether its trousers or a pretty top you’re after.
Lastly whilst you’re out and about shopping, remember to check if the store offers student discount – happy shopping!
